There has to be a good story here...

History & culture abound

We loved Albania for all its quirkiness and natural beauty. For those looking for adventure and beauty on a budget, Albania is worth a visit. We had so many interesting and fun experiences there we couldn't fit it all in. One of those experiences is pictured above. We were walking around and noticed lots of onlookers upon closer inspection we could see this bus accident. Below is an example of a modern artist's take on communism located in Bunk'art 2.

Great people with stories to tell

We highly recommend taking the Free walking Tour here in Tirana. You learn so much in only 2 1/2 hours. Our guide Eri was fantastic and we really loved how he shared personal stories to add layers to the historic information he provided. Below, see a video of a fire dancer at the cultural festival in Tirana. The night ended with lots of fireworks. This was 1 of 2 festivals we experienced. Shortly after we left there was an electronic festival also happening in Early June. Tirana has lots to do and see and you will not be bored.

Colorful characters everywhere

At every turn around Tirana and on our side trip to Durres, we met unique and colorful people and animals that had stories to tell. You'll find yourself snapping pictures at every corner as you stumble over the 170,000 bunkers sprinkled across the country.

The website Expats in Albania was a great resource on Albania since there is not a whole lot of information available. It helped answer some questions I struggled to find on the internet, especially about transportation needs. We will definitely be visiting Albania in the future and we hope more learn about it.
