3 Steps to making your travel dream a reality

  • Evaluation

  • Make a plan with milestones

  • What to do with your stuff

Eric used several resources to work on our financial plan. He mentioned a book: "Quit Like a Millionaire: No Gimmicks, Luck, or Trust Fund Required" a book by Bryce Leung and Kristy Shen. They have a great site Millennial-revolution with lots of great information.

As for Podcasts, Eric liked Bigger Pockets Money Podcast:

Minimizing your stuff to add to your travel bank

Start selling your stuff way earlier than you think. It takes the pressure off of doing it all last minute. You will get the most value by not rushing and will learn to live with less stuff. We found that selling items during the holiday season helped bolster our sales.

  • Facebook marketplace, Craigslist, Garage/Estate sales: The best way to sell direct and most $ in your pocket. Beware of giving personal information such as phone numbers and best to meet up in public spaces.

  • Second-hand resellers: We liked Plato's Closet and Buffalo Exchange. We found name brands and men's items sold well at these places.

  • Online resellers: We used Poshmark but there are lots of other options. Name brands and truly unique items work best here for resell.

  • Donate to local charities, churches, or organizations

  • Recycle electronics for $, we used ecoATM

  • Reuse, Recycle items into new creations instead of purchasing items. I made Holiday Cards out of old holiday cards that I had saved. Since I sew I was able to make travel bags for sneakers and travel sleeves for backpacks on luggage from old t-shirts.
