Episode 22: Prague, Czech Republic
Companion blog, tips, links, and pics
Exploring the City

Our second stop in the Czech Republic took us to most folk's first stop, Prague. Eric's second visit in 25+ years and my first. We had lots to see and experience in the storybook city. With so much to look at you have to explore the city on foot. Especially the old town.
Below you can see some pictures of our exploration. If you look at one of the pics you will see the narrowest pathway complete with a stop light to help guide you through. Another favorite in older European cities is finding Art nouveau art and architecture. And for my modern explorations, I love seeing what the local street art is communicating.

Alphonse Mucha
My favorite discovery was finding all the options to experience the artwork of Alphonse Mucha. We stumbled upon an exhibition of some of his most famous works. I've admired his art ever since discovering him in my college years. The Mucha female was beautiful, powerful, and glamorous.
Below is just a sample of some of his works but I do recommend if you get a chance to visit Prague visit a Mucha Museum.

This curious photo was inspired by the Getty Museum challenge. At the beginning of the pandemic in March 2020 I was bored being locked indoors and started recreating artwork and posting it on my personal Instagram page. I got more creative and detailed but held true to using mostly found objects.
In 2021, to celebrate my 50th recreation I chose Mucha's piece "The precious stones: Topaz". I painted the dial backdrop and the picture is a composite of pictures of items in my home. Although, I did borrow a display mannequin head from my work as a visual merchandiser.
I continued my pandemic recreations to complete a total of 117 works before giving it a rest. In this travel journey, I got to see several of the original artworks in my recreations face to face.
